Sonic the Hedgehog is officially a VTuber
Rumors have been circulating this week suggesting that the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog character will be turned into a VTuber, and sooner than expected, those rumors have come to fruition. Japan’s official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account released a video Thursday showing Sonic in a different animation style that confirmed VTuber’s suspicions. Sonic’s latest work is part of Sega’s ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations for the character.
The video below was shared by the Japanese Sonic account on Thursday following most of the 30th anniversary events that have been going on for quite some time now. Sonic shared a message with fans with the official account thanking everyone who attended the many Sonic events planned around the anniversary.

Since there has been talk of Sonic taking on VTuber’s job before, it’s likely that this won’t be the last of this version of Sonic we’ll see. More Sonic VTuber appearances will likely take place in the future around other events and announcements that need to be made. This particular video hasn’t been widely shared by other regional Sonic accounts on Twitter, so it looks like you need to keep an eye on the Japanese account for more on this version of Sonic, for now.
While Sonic’s announcements have taken different forms over the past two weeks, some of the biggest announcements have come from video game reveals. These revelations included Sonic Origins, Sonic Colors: Ultimate, and finally, a new Sonic the Hedgehog game in the works. This new game could be called “Sonic rangers», But that remains to be seen, for now. All we know about it is that it is being developed by the core Sonic team who are working on new Sonic games, and at first glance it appears to be a different type of Sonic game than what the players might be used to it.
We’ve already seen more gameplay reveals from some of these projects since their announcement, so expect to see the gameplay and more information in the future as we get closer to the games release.
