Leak claims Arma Reforger will be the next game in the series and a bridge to Arma 4

A leaked marketing guide alleged that the next game in the Arma series could be Arma Reforger, a game using Bohemia Interactive’s new Enfusion engine that is not, notably, Arma 4. Due to the complexity of Arma’s development 4, the guide says, Bohemia intends Arma Reforger to be a bridge between the current Arma community and the new game which will also introduce the franchise to a new audience: console gamers. Arma Reforger will supposedly launch on Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

The marketing guide was posted on a Reddit forum called Gaming Leaks and Rumours. It is widely considered credible given that Bohemia itself gives a presentation on the future of Arma on May 17, by a Publish Last week.

The leak says the game will take place on a fictional island called Everon in the Atlantic Ocean, near another fictional “Armaverse” island Malden. The most notable twist is that it will be set in “an alternate year of 1989” during a conflict between American and Soviet forces. It positions itself as a “military simulation game (as opposed to ‘simulator’)”, which is a more direct way of saying that Arma Reforger may be a bit more accessible than before. Bohemia also apparently hopes that by releasing the Enfusion engine and technology to modders ahead of the launch of Arma 4 proper, a capable modding community will already be in place for launch.

Notably, the marketing guide also emphasizes Bohemia’s ongoing work with the International Committee of the Red Cross, previously exemplified by the Laws of War DLC for Arma 3. The marketing guide indicates that Arma will continue to cultivate features of the series that have an “anti-war humanitarian focus” continuing to “expose, disseminate and promote international humanitarian law in the game”.
