Guerrilla Games appears to be working on an open-world cooperative RPG
When you think of Guerrilla Games and multiplayer, the first name that comes to mind is obviously Killzone, but it looks like the studio is looking to do something different in this space. According to job postings on the developer’s official website (spotted by VGC), a new cooperative open-world action RPG is in the works.
Various job postings mention social systems for player engagement, guilds that can explore game worlds together, and “stories and narrative design in open world RPGs, online games, and MMORPGs” with an emphasis on “mission, quest writing, and narrative design.” “
VGC says, echoing an April 2020 report, that according to its sources, the project is a standalone cooperative game set in the Horizon universe. According to Horizon Zero Dawn concept art which was leaked in 2014, Guerrilla had plans for cooperation even for the first game, similar to Monster hunter titles, but those plans were eventually scrapped.
Sony wanted the cooperative included in the next Horizon forbidden to the west, but Guerrilla instead decided to save the concept for an individual game that could either be a standalone project or the third main line. Horizon Entrance. According to VGC, if it is the first, the progress will carry over to the next one Horizon Title.
Interestingly enough, Guerrilla Games has been working on a ‘secret’ multiplayer project since 2018 (which previous job postings have also strongly suggested), with development being led by Simon Larouche – who has been heavily involved in Killzone 2 multiplayer on his first visit to Guerrilla Games. He then joined Ubisoft, where he worked on Splinter Cell Blacklist and Watch dogs 2, before becoming director of Rainbow Six Siege. He joined Guerrilla Games in 2018.
The next game from Guerrilla Games, Horizon forbidden to the west, will be released for PS5 and PS4 on February 18, 2022.
