Feral Interactive has ported dozens of games to the Mac over the years: everything from Sid Meiers Railroads! and Tomb Raider to a bunch of Total War games. Feral has become a household name for Mac gaming and has high hopes for the future of Max gaming, according to a recent interview with MacRumors.

A Feral spokesperson addressed common issues preventing large game releases on Mac. “The problem is that AAA games often push the limits of hardware, and we need to be confident that we can run a game well on a wide range of machines, often going back many years. However, the current transition to ‌Apple Silicon‌ opens up exciting opportunities,” they said.

As Apple abandons Intel-based Macs, the developer explains that “[Apple’s silicon] delivers a big boost in power, and for gaming, that translates to better performance and improved graphical fidelity.”

The developer cited serious performance and stability issues on Intel-based Macs with iGPU. “We had to spend a lot of extended development cycles optimizing games to make sure they ran as well as possible on devices that weren’t intended or designed for gaming.”

Ultimately, while Apple’s claim of enthusiast-grade discrete GPU performance doesn’t quite ring true, the new chips are far better than your average iGPU over the past decade.
