But it won’t be long before the Switch overtakes the DS when it comes to the sales game between the two. At least that’s what the latest numbers suggest.

Here’s why the Nintendo Switch will eventually overtake the DS in lifetime sales

As reported by VGChartz, recently collected numbers suggest that the overall gap between the two consoles is not significant at this time. In fact, it has gone down a lot over the past few months.

Currently, the DS is the best-selling Nintendo device. It has recorded lifetime sales of 154.02 million units since its initial release in 2004. On the other hand, the Switch has sold around 107.36 million units so far since its launch in 2017. In Overall, the main difference is almost 46.65 million units between these two very popular consoles.

But there are some factors that could help Nintendo Switch narrow that gap even further.

First, the main reason to believe that Switch will overtake the DS is the fact that the former is still selling worldwide. However, the DS is no longer available for sale.

Another reason why Nintendo Switch has become the best-selling console is its growing popularity. It has managed to maintain a large fan base despite stiff competition from rivals like PlayStation and Xbox.

Finally, the main reason why the Switch could possibly beat the DS is the fact that there is still time for Nintendo to present a successor to the Switch. Simply put, the latter has extra legroom to stretch out in even more parts of the world. And finally, it could achieve the goal which seems impossible at the moment.
