Fenty Beauty goes virtual with video game developer Riot Games
Looks like you’ll see your favorite Fenty Beauty products as part of the games company, the next series from Riot Games. Esoteric, which premiered this Saturday, November 6 on Netflix. The developer behind League of Legends recently announced that Fenty Beauty is the official beauty partner for the new series, making Rihanna’s brand the first beauty partnership for the company.
According to Riot Games, Fenty Beauty “will curate beauty looks across Riot Games and its content, with the aim of showcasing the multifaceted and diverse beauty landscape that celebrates beauty in all its forms, including animation.”
While it is not yet clear how the collaboration will take shape, the Esoteric the trailer features characters with golden eye makeup, smoky eyeshadow, and dark red lips that could very well be digital makeup designed by RiRi herself or the Fenty Beauty team. We hope this could also mean a collaboration with new products that would exist IRL or in the form of digital makeup “skins”.
With a shift towards the digitalization of beauty, the Riot Games and Fenty Beauty collaboration cements the brand’s relevance for the future. In other recent developments in digital beauty, the “the world’s first digital fragrance” was released in NFT, L’Oréal presented its first line of virtual-only makeup products, for use on Zoom, Snapchat, Instagram, and Google Duo and digital makeup artists, like Ines Alpha, have collaborated with people like Dior and Seduce.
Considering that Fenty Beauty has played a pivotal role in advancing the beauty industry via a more diverse range of shades (initial launch with 40 shades of foundation), it is no surprise that the brand is in going to become a leader in the digital space. It looks like all that’s left is to find out what the groundbreaking collaboration will look like and if that means any new Fenty Beauty products.
