The RTS genre is a genre that’s pretty darn hard to get on mobile. It takes precision and complexity, two things that aren’t always related to touchscreen controls.
That’s not to say that there aren’t some amazing real-time strategy games available on the Play Store. In fact, there is more than enough to make a list. This is exactly what we have done here.
You can click on the names of the games below to download them from the Play Store. And if you have your own suggestions for RTS games that should have been included in the list, let us know in the comments section.
A classic of the genre, crushed on mobile without losing any of what made it great in the first place. Lead your soldiers through a variety of campaigns during WWII, fight in a variety of skirmishes, and prove your motivation on the battlefield.
This one mixes ideas from other genres – namely roguelike – to create an entertaining RTS that’s different every time you pick it up. Your home island has been invaded, and it’s up to you to defend yourself and it from attackers.
An old but a goodie, if you have a device that can still run it. Tropical Stormfront takes inspiration from the classic RTS era, all the blocky graphics and big buttons, and sees you battling it out on a series of primary color maps. It’s worth checking out.
Ironhide Games, the developer of the Kingdom Rush series of tower defense games, attempted a space RTS with Iron Marines. It works remarkably well, incorporating some modern mobile sensibilities into the genre while keeping the challenge level just right.
A game full of unit types, campaign stages, and network battles. It has a bit of that old school charm, but there’s also a modernity here that keeps things fresh.
Another classic RTS that received mobile processing. This time you control Roman legions in pitched battles against a variety of different enemies. There are 19 different factions and the fights here are really epic.
This one adds a PvP twist to the RTS model, throwing you into futuristic chunks filled with lasers, tanks, and all kinds of stuff. If you are a Command and Conquer or Starcraft fan, you are going to love this one.
While this one is probably the easiest game on the list, it’s a great way to have some RTS fun when you don’t have that much spare time. It’s a numbers game, and adds some MOBA and roguelike twists for good measure. Plus, the mushrooms are super cool.
Another RTS with a foot in the best parts of the genre’s past. Build up your units, send them into battle, and generally have a good time while you do. There is also multiplayer here.
To round it off, we have another viking themed experience. This one doesn’t just focus on violence – there are all kinds of other things to consider, from the weather to marauding bears.
