10 best video game remakes to play

Being a constantly evolving medium, it is very easy for video games to become “obsolete”. One of the ways game publishers deal with these aging games is by remastering them, which, if done exceptionally well, can make a game look younger than it actually is. In other cases, games are simply remade from scratch, a process that naturally takes longer.

A remake is technically just a copy of the original, but it’s still its own thing and can be a great way to introduce new fans to an old series. Over the years, many classic games have been remade, the best of which stand out for their improved visuals, improved sound, or revised gameplay that make the game as fun and entertaining as it was when it was first released.

Souls of the Demon (2020)

FromSoftware’s Dark souls The series is infamous for its challenging and crazy gameplay and awesome construction and boss fights. the years 2005 Demon souls is the predecessor of Dark souls series, and without its commercial success, DS might not be here today.

The recent remake, easily one of the best remakes of 2020, preserves the gameplay that defines the series as well as its grim atmosphere, while delivering much more visually pleasing graphics. It was one of the few PS5 launch titles.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

The first one Halo the game revolutionized cooperative play forever 20 years ago and is still the highest rated game in the Halo series. A remake of the original Advanced fights, Birthday first released in 2011 on Xbox 360 for the game’s 10th anniversary, then re-released with The Master Chief collection.

Graphically speaking, Birthday is miles ahead of the original CE, with reworked resources and HD levels providing a much more vivid look at the world. Even CE’s multiplayer maps have been redesigned, and on top of that, Birthday also has “terminals” which are short videos that give players a glimpse into the world of Halo.

Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020)

The Final fantasy The franchise is over 30 years old, and many games in the series have already been remastered and remade. Final Fantasy VII remake is a remake of 1997 Final Fantasy VII, although it is not complete as the game is being remade in several parts and only the first one has been released.

FF VII was a historic title for the series and introduced many characters like Cloud Strife and Sephiroth, all of which are fleshed out in the remake. The combat system in the original was turn-based, but the remake opted for real-time combat which is much more common these days and is just one of the many changes present in the game.

Mafia: Definitive Edition (2020)

The first one Mafia The game is unmistakably iconic and classic, but also almost 20 years old and outdated. Mafia: definitive edition is a complete remake of the 2002 game built from the ground up. Set in the 1930s, the game explores the underworld of the fictional American city of Lost Heaven. With much of the same plot setting, it offers gameplay more suited to modern standards, especially in the driving and shooting department which involves a good deal of gameplay. The game is available as part of the Mafia: Trilogy compilation which also includes remasters of the other two games and is considered one of the best video game compilations around.

Resident Evil 2 (2019)

years 1998 Resident Evil 2 marked the first appearances of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, two of the most iconic characters in the series. It is through these two characters that the game introduced the mechanism of branching plots, a first for the series.

Much of what makes the old resident Evil hard to play games now are the controls, so for obvious reasons it was replaced with something more contemporary in the 2019 remake, not to mention the massive graphics overhaul that made it better than the original. Resident Evil 2. The 1998 game had fixed camera angles that only made movement difficult, but the remake uses a much more convenient third-person view and, as an added bonus, it has virtually no loading screens.

Resident Evil (2002)

The very first resident Evil The game was released in 1996 on PS1, and in 2002 a remake of the game developed by the same group of people who worked on the original was released for GameCube. The remake was certainly an upgrade for the time, but it hasn’t aged well. A remastered HD version was released in 2015 for PC and other platforms, which further enhances the remake.

The iconic mansion is made much spookier, and more areas are available to explore in the remake. The way RE’s old “tank” controls worked was that the playable character had to be turned in a particular direction before they could be moved, which was a problem for players when attacked by zombies. The HD remaster comes with a better control scheme which allows characters to be moved directly and with more precision.

Yakuza Kiwami (2016)

The Yakuza The series dates back to the days of the PS2 in 2005, but gained worldwide popularity much later. An action-combat series with elements of crime drama set in a culturally rich Asian setting, the Yakuza the franchise is not for everyone but boasts of a large fan base. 2016 Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the very first Yakuza 2005 game, with added plot points and better gameplay.

The combat mechanic, one of the integral aspects of the game, has been updated to feel more modern, one of the many things that makes it the best. Yakuza game to start the series with.

Black Mesa (2020)


Valve Half-life is a critically acclaimed masterpiece and one of the most revered games on the PC platform, and Mesa black is a remake of it. But what does Mesa black Special, at least in the context of this list, is the fact that it was independently developed by a group of third-party developers who had no association with the original developer Valve.

The remake started its journey as a simple fan-made mod, but eventually grew into a fully updated full game and took over a decade to develop. Mesa black made tons of modifications to the base Half-life game, adding new details and the like. The most acclaimed of these changes is the reworked Xen level design where Mesa black shines through the best.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (2019)

Link’s Awakening was the first game of the Zelda the series will be available on a portable console, in this case the always classic Game Boy. Limited by the technology of its day, the game only included black and white visuals when it was first released. A colorful version of the game was released in 1995, and a full remake was released by Nintendo in 2019.

The remake’s graphics are fully 3D but still retain a top-down view which is a welcome throwback to its classic retro roots. New Link’s Awakening offers a better map than the original, and more specifically a Dungeon Creator that allows players to create their own dungeons with coins from previously visited locations.

Shadow of the Colossus (2018)

the years 2005 Shadow of the colossus is a PS2 classic with great replay value, which has lasted so long in people’s hearts due to its unique and beautifully designed world. The player travels through a mysterious land in an attempt to kill 16 huge monster-like beings called The Colossi.

The remake of Shadow of the colossus was applauded for successfully preserving the atmosphere of the original. It offers two control schemes – a classic version and a more modern version with some quality of life changes. The remake also has two modes: Cinematic, which can render at 4K but is capped at 30 FPS, and Performance mode which gives 60 FPS but no 4K.
